Streetwear and innovative collaborations go hand-in-hand. One of the brands that is leading the way comes from the Middle East and 1886 is changing the streetwear game.
Since launching in 2016, the Riyadh-based label 1886 has skillfully integrated heritage with modernity, working with unconventional fabrics and design. Mixing a minimalist aesthetic with a dose of urban edge to create ‘streetwear with elegance’.
1886 recently collaborated with the independent French brand Les (Art)ists. Based in Paris, Les (Art)ists started out by making football jerseys for an imaginary team where the players are popular artists from the fashion and music scenes. The two brands then merged styles to create a new take on modern streetwear.
1886’s recent Fall-Winter collection, dubbed 23.5°, revealed their planet-sized aspirations, by drawing inspiration from an ancient fable. According to ancient Greek mythology, a giant planet called Theia collided with Earth around 4.5 billion years ago, tilting its axis by 23.5°. In the story, debris from the collision formed the Moon, which in turn created the Earth’s seasons. The resulting elemental change was the inspiration for 1886 to create a collection that is set to elevate streetwear for 2021 and beyond.
