Chanel’s 2024/25 Métiers d’Art Collection Unfolds in Hangzhou

At the heart of Chanel’s 2024/25 Métiers d’art collection lies a universe of intricate artistry, brought to life by the legendary Maisons d’art. These ateliers—embodying the soul of couture—unite hundreds of artisans: embroiderers, feather workers, goldsmiths, shoemakers, milliners, and more. Their boundless creativity and savoir-faire aren’t just details; they’re the essence of every masterpiece Chanel unveils.

This dedication to craftsmanship found a stage like no other on the serene shores of West Lake in Hangzhou, where Gabrielle Chanel’s beloved Coromandel screens inspired an evocative journey. Shades of jade green, soft pink, and sky blue wove through the collection, reminiscent of the lacquered screens that adorned her Paris apartment. Every stitch and silhouette echoed Chanel’s ethos: where heritage meets innovation.

Filmmaker Loïc Prigent dove into this world, capturing the magic at le19M, Chanel’s hub for artisanal excellence. Immersing himself in the effervescence of six Maisons d’art, he revealed the intricate processes behind the collection—the featherlight embroidery, phosphorescent braids, and envelope-shaped pockets that mesmerized the audience.

Since 2002, the Métiers d’art collections have spotlighted these artisans, celebrating the craft that turns Chanel’s vision into wearable poetry. This year, in a film by Wim Wenders, ambassadors Tilda Swinton, Xin Zhilei, and Leah Dou carried us through a contemporary reimagining of Gabrielle Chanel’s Coromandel dreams.

With this collection, Chanel doesn’t just honor craftsmanship; it redefines what it means to blend art, fashion, and storytelling. From Paris to Hangzhou, the spirit of Chanel continues to transcend borders, reminding us that true luxury is always in the details.
